Instrument cluster swap 940 - 740 700

I'm swapping complete dash from a 93 940 into 86 740.
The problem I'm faced with at this point is the speedo connector at the instrument cluster. 740 has three wires going to it, while 940 has four. Any idea why the difference and if there is any way to wire 940 speedo into 740?
