Heater Thermostat Valve replacement 200 1979

I'm getting puddles of coolant on the drivers floor in my '79 242.

This car is at the end of it's life, but I need to squeeze a couple more months out of it.

So my question is about a junk yard replacement. Is there a way to check and see if a valve is decent in the junk yard? I don't want to spring for a new valve when I'm going to junk the car soon anyway.

(I would just bypass the heater core altogether but it's too cold where I live these days to not have heat in the car.)

Thanks as always!
