Twinkling Battery Light 200 1987

I changed out water pump, hoses, and all drive belts about ten days ago. Since then, I have had a twinkling battery light on start up. Shifting through the gears, it will twinkle under load. After about 5-6 minutes, it goes away and I can't reproduce the twinkle. I commute about an hour each way, and I can't discern any battery drain whatsoever. The new belts seem fine and within tolerance. I've searched the archives but don't see a clear answer. Should I be packing a new alternator in the back hatch?
