Fuel Injection, B23f, knock/ping 200 1984

Hi All,

1984 245 GL

Brief history. In attempting to chase down some rough idling, and rich smelling exhaust I finally got around to replacing my injectors after replacing/testing/cleaning everything that was suspect. I bought a set of injectors off an ebay retailer for $100. These came clean, recondition, and in overall great shape.

Upon removal of my old injectors, two were Bosch 0280 150 209 (as they should be) and two were 0280 150 201 !!!

I looked up the stats for these two injectors and obtained the following:

Injector cc/min lbs/hr hp
Bosch '209' 176 17.3 35.2
Bosch '201' 236 23.1 47.2

It seems clear to me that the two incorrect injectors were passing too much fuel. Hence, rich running, stumbly idle, poor mileage.

The car idles much, much better. However, upon my test drive the car was pinging fairly rough upon hard acceleration. Here's where I ask the volvo guru's here what they would do under a similar situation. Why was it NOT pinging when it appears there was more fuel? Should I have the timing adjusted? What else can should I look for given this recent turn of events?

Vacuum lines appear good (i went around and trimed the ends).
Duct work is solid, no cracks, hot hose is disassembled and taped off.
Tested and cleaned the IAC.
New intake manifold gasket, throttle body gasket.

Be well,
-Greg
