Hello,
I am having some trouble with my power steering pump on my 87 245. The problem is that the pulley seems 'loose.' The pump is working just fine, but the pulley makes a rattley noise when the motor is running and if I grab onto the pulley (with the motor off) I can move it slightly, like you could on a wheel when you have a loose wheel bearing. However, the nut on the pulley is tight. Also, if I put a couple of drops of oil on the pulley near the shaft into the pump housing, the noise quits, but only momentarily.
Has anyone else out there ever had this problem? I suppose my question is whether it can be fixed. I would hate to get rid of an otherwise perfectly good pump.
The other issue I have had is that this pump is one where the reservoir is on top of the pump (like the old Saginaw pump on my 83), except it is not the old type. All of the 240's I've found in the yards have the two piece set-up where the reservoir sits on the left fenderwell with hoses running in between. So, if I do need a new pump, I would have to get a few things, it looks like, unless I could find an other one like this.
If anyone out there has an idea about this, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
