While replacing my M47, I am in the process of changing the rear main seal on my 89 240. Looking for any tips for pressing in the new seal without use of the Volvo tool. I have the aluminum carrier off the engine block and was planning on pressing in the seal off the car. I am concerned I will not be able to get the seal perpendicular to the crank. From speaking with a Volvo mechanic, the seal is usually replaced with the carrier in the car, and the Volvo tool uses the end of the crank to align the seal and set the depth of the seal. Any tips would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
