Hi,
So last night I got the head off my 1993 940 turbo, but in the process I think I dropped one of the valve cover nuts into the hole in the block for the turbo oil return. I know, I should have covered the hole immediately after removing the turbo. I'm not 100% sure the nut went in there, but there is a pretty good chance. Can't find it anywhere else.
I know there is a screen over the oil pump pickup, but my concern is that it could get jammed between the crankshaft and somthing stationary, causing damage.
I drained the oil after this and nothing came out.
Here are the options I'm considering:
1. Attempt to lower the oil pan without lifting the engine enough to reach in and hopefully find the nut. I am not sure this will work, worthout lifting the glock and/or dropping the cross member. I don't have a spare oil pan gasket on hand. Worst case I find nothing and just create oil leaks.
2. Place a strong magnet on the bottom of the pan, leave the nut in there, hoping that it doesn't get thrown by the crankshaft.
Any advice? Other suggestions? What are the chances of it causing damage if I leave it in there?
Thanks,
Eric
