Can a faulty ECU or faulty Air mass meter prevent this car from stating 200 1989

I am trying to help someone start a 1989 240 non turbo.

I have checked the spark , the timing belt, the fuel pump relay and its fuses and the grouind connection under the passenger seat.

I have had the tank filled up to more than the half in case the auxiliary fuel pump was sucking air through a slit hose.

I have access to a working 240 1990 ( mine)and was thinking of swappin the AMM and or the ECU to see if that makes a difference.

I was wondering if simply disconnecting the air mass meter would allow us to start the engine and move it on the limp home mode without having to call a tow truck .
I suppose that disconnecting the AMM would eliminate temporarily the fault due to a split or leaky air intake tube downstream from the AMM.

As for the ecu I undesatnd that there is a bad batch that has been installed in th e1989 and I was wondering if a good one from a 1990 would be suitable.
Where exactly are those ECU anyway ?

Any help is appreciated.
