I got a call from my friend Stan from the muffler street across from my bike store, he said to come over and check out some old guys rare Volvo. I expected a P1800 or a 544 but when I got across the street there was a very clean 1980 262 Bertone. The old guy said fixing the muffler was more than he wanted to spend on the "old car" as he had just spent several hundred on a lift pump, fuel tank cleaning, injector seals etc... I expressed an interest in the car.
The man came back to my store today and asked if I wanted to inspect the car out and take it for a drive. We went over to check it out. The gold 262 was covered in a spotless garage. He had all of the receipts for everything done to the car since he bought it new in San Rafael CA in 1980. He produced one of the original keys and, due to the bad muffler, the Volvo/Peugeot/Renault V-6 roared to life. My wife and I took it for a rumbling ride out to the country west of town. The power windows worked, the power mirrors worked,I turned on the OE Volvo Am/Fm/Cassette stereo and the power antenna worked! Even the AC pumped out some cold air!
He found the original pink slip, we handed over some cash and we added the fourth 200 series to our family. 43K and some change is what the odometer reads. I will clean it up, fix a couple of things and you guys can see it in Davis in a couple of months.
