Radiator Leaking Tranny Fluid at Cooler 700 1987

Hi folks,

I'm at work right now... gotta make this quick!

When I installed my new radiator, I had trouble getting the ATF cooler lines off the old one (stuck). When I got the new radiator in, the cooler lines leaked a few drops of fluid every minute with the car idling.

I tightened the cooler lines as hard as I felt was reasonable (and wouldn't break them!), and the leak stopped. Today, the leak is back - when I opened the hood, I saw transmission fluid splashed on the radiator and fan shroud. Not much (or any) leakage at idle.

I didn't have the time to check the fluid level. Autozone is a 5 minute drive away (and I have 2 quarts of ATF in my trunk!), so I can make it - so I have these questions:

As far as I could tell, the tapered connectors went on dry, so I just screwed them on. Did I need a gasket? Vaseline?

This is an inexpensive Autozone aftermarket radiator. Is this a common problem with these types?

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Ari
