Left tail light not working but lic. lights on - ideas? 200 1986

I can switch the L & R bulb holder/bulb and the R one always works, but not the left, BUT the lic plate lights work, which are on the L tail light circuit. Ideas? The circuit board(?)looks in very good shape at that bulb. Thanks.
