Poor mileage, what else to check? 900 1993

Hello,

I have a '93 945T that I drive very easily - 60-65 on the freeway, never get into boost, light acceleration, lots of coasting and planning ahead, but I still only manage 20.5 mpg! My 245 with the same basic engine got ~24 mpg (only difference is the 245 had a manual trans, but the 945 auto trans has a longer overdrive).
I have replaced every possible tuneup part (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, oil+filter, k&n air filter), including the oxygen sensor. I was really hoping for an improvement after replacing the o2 sensor, but it was only 1/2 mpg better.
The tailpipe looks black, like it's too rich, but AFAIK there is nothing to adjust on the EFI system. The only other thing I can think of is the coolant temp sensor for the EFI. Does anyoe have specs on this? Any other ideas?
Oh, the engine has good compression and does not appear to burn oil, the brakes are not dragging, and tires have a few psi over suggested pressure.
Thanks,

Csaba
