Locking gas caps are great..till you girlfriend loses the key 140-160

Just a funny post I thought I'd share..

Yes I can blame her on this, she lost the keyring that had the Stant locking gas cap keys on it (I leave the Volvo key in the car, no one in my town would consider stealing it..). After a week of searching and wanting to put gas in it I finally got tired of doing such and formulated my plan.

Step one: Attack the beast with a screwdriver
results: lock cylinder mutilation, cap still one. One smushed finger.

Step two: Pry out with screwdriver
results: found thickest metal on entire volvo, the the filler neck surround.

Step three: remove filler neck, beat cap with BFH
results: sucess! Hammering the lip off the cap let me slide it down the filler neck. Very impressed with the venting system, rubber is in GREAT shape after all these years. A little WD40 let the neck slip back in the large filler hose, reclamped and good to go. I have a wag so it's all simple to get at.

Lesson Learned: Don't lose your cap keys. Ever.

:)

Now..does anyone have a spare cap? I got an old Jeep one to fit on there, barely for the time being.

Good news is I scored 2 sets of 3 hole Beck Arnley filters for $12.50 a SET from Rock Auto of all places, they were having a wholesaler closeout on them. Engine breathes a lot better with clean filters.
