That Dang Flametrap kit again 200 1986

Hello Ladies and Gents,

Noticed yesterday afternoon when checking fluid levels in Inga 1986 (my faithful 245DL 230K miles) that as I checked the tranny fluid level that there was some smoke coming up between the intake manifold. Had done some cleaning during the Alternator episode and at first thought that was the issue as she warmed up. But gave it a minute or two and enough time passed that now it was a problem.

Found that Scamtech flame trap flange was once again the problem. Running 5W50 full synthetic oil by the way, do not think that caused this however. The flange on the last Scamtech kit split this last summer. This was did not split but was loose and mushy. The flame trap was hanging off to the side. The nipple was so loose that the flametrap would slip right back out had quite a time getting it into the nipple since it was just oily and loose. Had an older hard plastic nipple from the old breather box and installed it. Flame Trap was still in place this morning after the commute.

Anyone else had issues with the Scantech Kits? Should I get a dealer kit maybe?

Getting kind of old, cheap part, but 2 issues in a year is a bit much.

Thanks and Regards,

Paul
