A while back, I posted that I had an issue with loosing coolant. I thought I had found it, but it resurfaced again this past weekend. I did not have the equipment to pressure test the cooling system, but was doing my best to find it (by throwing parts at it). Yesterday, I was under the hood, and reached over to the throttle pulley, and revved the engine. Coolant squirted from the left side of the radiator (under the return hose), and on closer inspection, the tank was found to be leaking, where it joins the actual radiator core. I had purchased another radiator, and so I installed it. The replacement radiator is a little more heavy duty (3 row), and it also has metal tanks, where the original had 2 rows and plastic tanks. The installation went smoothly, and after I was finished, I ran the car to operating temperature. The only glitch is that the engine does not get as warm as it used to. The temp gauge only gets to about the 8 o'clock position, and then when the thermostat opens drops slightly. The car used to operate at the 9 o'clock position. I know that there is a compensating board in the gauge cluster, but everything else seems to be the same as before. Do you think that the difference is due to the radiator making an additional pass with the coolant, and now the engine is going to operate cooler? Do I need to go with a hotter thermostat?
