Alternator/Waterpump Hell! 200

I just replaced my alternator today with a Volvo Bosch 80 amp version. The toasted one was a rebuilt. It had all of the bosch regs etc, but it just quit on the hwy last night! All of my lights and everything went dim, to a sputtering motor to nothing! I am so glad that I had a spare alternator in my garage. I had it for about 3 years now, from a donor 91 740 (non-turbo). The donor was in great condition with decent parts. The tow truck driver tested the toasted alternator as the car ran on a portable jump starter, it was putting out only at a mere 25% capacity!! I suspect the dying waterpump, that I just replaced leaked all over the alternator for a while via the weeping hole, and the coolant did its damage. These larger oversized 80 amp alternators are very stout (9 740/850 Volvos)! This 240 is fairly new to me, with exception to the engine and tranny, whereas they are the same as the 740 or so. The original application for this car list a 65 amp, and some list a 80 amp, it looks like the rebuilt was an 80 amp. I think I need some new alternator bushings via the bottom bolt, there is some sort of play in there with this newly installed donor alternator? Do you guys think the coolant did the alternator in for its final destination? Also I need to get a plastic undercarriage shield, the previous owner, never replaced it. How much does the rain affect and or come into contact with the alternator (excluding large puddles)? I would imagine that the engine heat help to ward off some of the moisture, what say you. Sorry about the long thesis, I don't mean to ramble.

Best Regards,
