tranny leak when engine running, torque conv seal problem? 200 1986

brixters,

in my 86 245, 300k+ miles, i've got a tranny leak. i have an auto aw70.

it leaks near the front of the tranny when the engine is running, and it's a precipitious drip.

it does not leak when the engine is off, though.

question:
1) what type of tranny leak is this, a symptom of a torque converter seal leak?
2) a bigger problem?

i plan to drop the tranny to replace orings & seals including the rear crank seal.
