740 turbo problem!!!! car keeps on cutting out 700 1988

Fellow Bricksters,

I have just bought a 1988 740 Turbo with the B230FT with I think the M46 manual. Car has been running superbly and has been checked out last week by a Volvo mechanic and came out ok. However this morning after washing the car and taking it for a drive it broke down. Symptoms are as follows.

-Two minutes into the drive and just before the car completly cut out and stopped I noticed the rev counter going beserk, quickly fluctuating between 2-5,00 rpm (only on the dial though not the actual rev speed on the motor). So first sign was the rev counter and then a cutting out feeling.

-Motor cut out completely and did not restart, I left it for 5 minutes and it restarted as normal.

-I drove it again for about 5 minutes only for the same thing to happen, however after my mate and I were playing around with it a couple of hours later it did start up again began to rev very highly about 2,500 rpm I believe.

Must say I do not know where to start on this. What would give these symptons and shut down the car. It gives absolutely no warning, the car runs and revs well. Maybe electrical???Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.....
