1992 240, I'm installing new strut inserts (Boge/Sachs turbo gas). When trying to install the retaining nut that holds the insert to the strut it threads in MOST of the way, then stops, leaving about 4 threads showing. I've cranked down hard on it, but it will not thread in any further.

I matched up the old shock with the new one, same length, and when matching them up with the retaining nuts it's showing the same installed height.

Anyone have any suggestions? The car's in pieces in the garage, I'd like to get it all back together today.
