Dang. It's always something.
Well, after my head swap, I must have grabbed the wrong securing bolt - one just a little bit too long. The bolt was almost home on the breather when the head twisted off. A little cursing later and found the proper short bolt sitting on the nose of the car.
I know from my several "trips" into the B18 engine block that the oil trap bolt is held captive by a hollow "thumb" like thing that goes into the block - that is, it does not just go through an open hole into the crankcase.
Dang. That's a hard spot to get tools into and I've had horrible luck with extracting broken studs and bolts in the past. They almost *always* have to be drilled and tapped because neither the reverse corkscrew extractors, nor the screw type extractors seem to work.
What sort of product recommendations can anyone make for extracting broken bolts - especially a broken bolt in close-quarters? I *really* do not want to have to tap this hole after another blind drilling experience, nor do I want to have to pull the whole engine block. No time for that now...
