Dear Fellow Brickboarders;
I just came back from a trip from Cali-Bogota, which has very steep inclines and descends. Coming down from “La Linea” 3,200m (10,500ft), I lost my brakes almost completely. I could push the pedal all the way down, with almost no effect on the car’s speed. Of course, I had been using the gearbox (AW72) for engine braking, but evidently it wasn’t enough. After I pulled over for a couple of minutes, my brakes returned to normal. In preparation for this trip (1 week before), I had installed new Mintex brake pads on all wheels, as well as new stainless steel brake hoses from FCP. The shop who installed them power bled the system twice, because the previous fluid was very dirty, and installed Bosch DOT4 fluid. They said my front rotors are bent, but that they are already too slim to brush any further, so I had to stay with them until I can import new ones.
What could have caused this no-brake situation? Is it just normal considering I was driving a 2ton vehicle downhill or is this situation related to my rotors or any other defective brake parts? Thanks again for your answers.
Regards;
