Howdy all,
Having just recently acquired a running '82 245GLT I have become very interested in parts, prices, and not having to do a repair twice in a short time frame.
I have read of some terribly short time between failure figures, especially concerning rubber parts. I know that rubber has a shortened lifespan when subjected to oil, heat, and compression (motor and transmission mounts, for instance). But a few weeks between install and failure is unacceptable to me.
I would like to have a list of parts to avoid and a list of parts to seek out. I thought about going through all the archives here to generate such a list but it would take me forever and two days. So, I am asking that everyone who has replaced parts post to this thread or email me the information (sdewolfe-at-cricketlady-dot-com) and I will build a spreadsheet. Once I have enough data to be useful, I will post it for all to use.
I am particularly interested in 240 and 122 parts because I have a vested interest. But, if you will provide the information for any model Volvo, I will add it to the database.
I ask that you not bash any company, reseller, manufacturer, or individual. Simply provide the time between installation and the day you realized you would have to do it again. Short lived parts will stand out like a sore thumb; there will be no need to criticize.
Please provide as much of the following information as you can:
Model and year of your car
Part description
Volvo PN (if known)
Aftermarket manufacturer
Manufacturer's (or reseller's) PN
Where purchased
Purchase price
Time between installation and failure
Thanks in advance for the help.
