Airbox thermostat: scrap it? 200 1989

Am tuning up wife's '89 244, B230, AT. Was ordering from ipd, so for the 1st time ever, I ordered an airbox thermostat. Car has 170K miles, figured I'd be good to it.

Everything else going OK. Got to airbox. Cussed a lot getting the whole airbox out. How the devil do you guys get that danged thermostat installed? I pried the spring loaded plunger back to remove old thermostat. Went fine. New one has thermostat, movable pin and little brass cap that falls off.

I've heard of folks merely disabling the airbox thermostate....period. Now I'm thinking of setting the new 'stat aside and reinstalling the box with the system disabled.

Thoughts?

I know it is only a benefit when warming up. Car no longer has manifold heater tinwork on it and flex, "aluminum looking," hose, manifold to airbox, is gone anyway. So there is never any warm air coming from manifold to airbox.

Am I heading the wrong way?

Unless I am encouraged to change my course of action, I think I'll scrap the thermostat, and insure the air ONLY comes through from the grill intake.
