Hi all,
On my '87 GLE, I decided the time had come to change my plugs for the first time. The records the owner had given me were spotty, so I didn't know how many miles they had on them.
The plugs were Volvo single-electrode type plugs, from 8 YEARS AGO, 100k miles ago. Holy moley, they were TOUGH to get out!!! And pretty rusty and funky, too - fit the Haynes photo of a 'worn' plug to a T. The gap must have been ~3mm from all the wear.
Since the old ones were such a bear to get out, I'm not sure if the new ones (NGK copper) are in tight enough - my torque wrench is cheap, so I just ballparked it on the low side. If anyone can tell me what the signs of an under-torqued plug are, I'd appreciate it.
My plug wires appear original. New ones are on 'the list.'
Thanks y'all.
