Flame trap questions (long) 700 1987

Hi y'all,

I just changed my flame trap. I couldn't find it before because it was buried in a sea of grit and oil! It was WAY nasty, inside and out. It had kinda popped off its rubber lower boot, too....

That's what I have questions about: I'm worried my oil trap, too, is clogged. I don't want to pop my rear main seal, or front seals. I have fixed two severe vacuum leaks in the last day (brakes seem to work better?).

I do know from the PO's records that the rear main seal popped out and that the flame trap was replaced - but that was in 2000. This is an 8-year-old trap I just removed, I think - it had a brass inner thingy.

I have a metal oil fill cap. Shall I try the 'dancing oil fill cap trick?'

Thanks,

Ari
