I replaced what I believe to be the original spark plug wires (Volvo logo, made by Bremi, not Bougicord), distributor cap, and rotor today.
The old wires were really stiff and permanently bent into the shape they held for the last 22 years. I'm amazed that the car ran as well as it did.
The cap had a date stamp of 1985, and the rotor was frozen onto the distributor. I ended up destroying the rotor trying to remove it and had to pull the distributor off.
The car runs even better than I thought possible now. The idle is rock steady, it fires up instantaneously, and I could swear the car has more pep.
It's amazing what a simple tuneup can do. Considering the previous owner replaced practically everything under the hood, I wonder why the ignition system was neglected.

PS - what's with FCP Groton not including coil wires?
