Mushy Brakes 700

All of a sudden I have mushy brakes.
It has new pads all around and fresh brake fluid last fall
with new flexible brake lines. There was zero slop in the brake
pedal after that job.
Now suddenly there is a lot of slop in the brake pedal,
with the car still stopping fine, but it is creepy to have the brake pedal
play show up suddenly.

What to look for ? This is a NON ABS system.
What's the troubleshooting routine for this?
