New MC installed. Now to let it bleed. 200 1989

So we got the air out of the new MC after we installed it and bled the system in the proper sequence using one of those Motif (?) pressure bleeders and the process told me that all the air was out of the entire system, although I didn't bleed each bleeder too long.

But no. After I put the cap back on the resevoir the peddle went to the floor.
Does one have bleed out a LOT of fluid to get it right. Might there be air further back in the system spoiling the bleed party?
I may replace a couple of bleeders.
Any other ideas?
