I just installed a new timing belt on my buddies 1986 245. We got it all back together and when we went to start it up nothing. Everything turns just fine, but there is no spark and there is a smell of gasoline.
We pulled it all apart and checked the alignment points and everything is aligned right, though I recalled that the first time I pulled it all apart I accidentlly tried to loosen the intermediate pully, which runs the Distributor and I heard something move, almost like teeth on teeth rotation.
Could I have the D-cap out of alignment? If so, how do I get it back into alignment. It seems like I must have the cam and Crank pullies aligned, as I'm not getting anything hitting anything else and I can run a full cycle by hand.
I tired to adjust the Distributor using the adjustment arch, as it very clearly does not contact plug one at TDS, but I could not rotate the D enough to actually make for correct alignment.
HELP!!! I need to get his car running soon.
Thanks.
Matt
PS, have Bentley, Haynes, and Chilton.
