Today on the drive home from work I stopped for gas and when I drove away from the station the OD light came on and would not go off no matter what I did.
I drove home in 3rd, then started looking. The plastic shroud on my shifter is missing and the wire is frayed. I cut out the frayed sections thinking I would splice in a piece until I could run to the yard on Wednesday. However, that did not help. I checked the OD fuse, it was fine. I was about to resign to driving to work in 3rd, when I slapped the console while moving around. The light is off and OD is on, and all that with the switch unplugged.
Now, I know full well what it means when percussive maintenance fixes an electrical component - loose solder. I just fixed that problem in my wife's van the other week, when the wipers quit and slamming the hood made them twitch.
So I run over here, and lo and behold - a whole section in the FAQ on loose solder.
I am a bit too tired to do this now, but tomorrow it's soldering time.
