960 shift linkage bushings - be careful installing 900 1993

My automatic gear shift was really sloppy, huge amounts of play when trying to move the shifter.

The two (very hard) rubber/plastic bushing on the linkage were completely missing.

I installed new ones (under $4 each). Bad news is while installing the rear bushing into the plastic shift lever that comes down from the gearshift in the car I broke the plastic lever....the bushings are hard to insert and I didn't support the plastic and it broke. Luckily it didn't break completely through so it still works, but one day I'm sure it will snap off. I'm not looking forward to replacing that piece.

Be careful installing the rear bushing, jam a 2x4 or something behind the plastic lever so you don't stress it....the bushings were extremely hard to insert...maybe I should have warmed them up or something to soften them up? If anyone has any tips on this procedure please share...

The good news is the gearshift feels really smooth and solid now, feels like a new car. What a difference $8 makes.
