No start when hot. 200 1989

So when it's cold it starts right up. After being on the freeway for a while it won't start, or just barely catch after a lot of cranking.
What's the deal with this problem?
Causes?
Can it be reliably started with a roll and a jump when hot - ala pop the clutch?
