Tail lights 200

I recently bought a 1990 245 and already had a 1989 245. I replaced the tail lights in the 90 with the ones from the 89. I'm not sure if the tail lights where working before or if the lights are different between the two years. The brake lights and turn signals work but not the tail lights. Are they called running lights? I cant remember. Where should I start?
