what causes it?

periodically my B18 w/ HS6 carbs diesels when I turn the ignition off. I guess when it does this I'm supposed to put the car in gear and let out the clutch quickly. I never seem to be able to do this fast enough before the car finally dies.

any suggestions to prevent it from happening in the first place?
