transmission woes 200 1987

I have an '87 240 with 250k miles, and the transmission is starting to slip intermittently. I notice it mainly when coming off of a downward facing slope onto a flat area, for some reason. There is also a transmission fluid leak, but I keep it topped off. 1) does the slip mean that the transmission is doomed? and 2) is there a fast fix for the leak? suggestions greatly appreciated.
