DID WE GET REAR ENDED? (240 Wagon ) 200 1981

This forum is wonderful!

My wife and I bought a 81 - 240 Wagon last week.
It sat un-driven for 2 years. I finally talked
it's owner into parting with it.

We're driving it now, but very cautiously. Today
as we slowly pulled into an intersection at
a green light, it appeared we were rear ended.
There was a loud 'klunk' and a foreword jerking
motion. Again at the next stop, we had the exact
same experience. We immediately drove home.

Does anyone have any ideas? It has a manual
transmission and 160k miles.

Tomorrow I'll check the differential oil and
have a close look at bushings and mounts for
the engine and transmission.

Thanks in advance for any help.
