700 axle seal - replace only inner seal? 700

My 1989 765T with 219,000 miles has a leak at the axle bearing seal(s). It seems I could replace the inner seal relatively easily, but the outer seal and the bearing would need to be done by a shop. Anyone have experience changing only the inner seal? Or should I just go ahead and have the whole thing done at the shop.
