240 Engine Coolant & Water Pump Questions 200

Two rookie questions about engine coolant:

1) What other brands/types of engine coolant besides Genuine Volvo are decent enough to use in my '88 240, and where are they available? I'm up here in Toronto and the only other spot I know that carries coolant is Canadian Tire (not so great).

2) When mixing the coolant 1:1 with distilled water, can I do it directly into the reservoir or do I need to premix in another container first?

Any other tips besides all the standard stuff found on this board ( and in my manuals) for changing out the water pump? If I can get some decent coolant on a Saturday, I'm going to attempt installation tomorrow.
