780 windshield removal 700 1990

Having removed the seats and carpet, and drying everything out, the recent rain revealed that my 780 was still leaking water in a major way, which collected in the rear floor on the passenger side, so I got a bucket of water and poured it down the cowl vent. It drained out the rocker panels and did not show up inside the car. A second bucket poured along the top of the windshield revealed the cause of the problem. There is a tiny, barely noticeable rust spot at the top right corner of the winshield opening, and apparently, the adhesive is no longer sealing for a couple of inches on either side of the rusted area, so my question is do I have to save the black plastic molding, and how is it attached? Is it held onto the body with clips, like a regular 740, or does it mount to the edge of the glass like a 93 240? I am not too concerned about cracking the windshield, as it has a couple of nasty stone chips, and is pitted badly enough to make it worthwhile replacing it, but I do need to be able to take it out myself, so I can deal with the rust, before having a mobile glass shop come and install the new one.
