'93 244 M47 odometer/trip meter failure 200

Yesterday on a 180mi round trip to visit my daughter I noted that my trip meter seemed to not be moving up in tenths, and then at all. The OD has 97,444 on it It was raining hard all day and I noticed this on the way back at night. It was working on the way down. The OD is not even working now. I have never had a problem with this and know that there is a nylon gear that may have broken a tooth but I had thought that this only effects the trip meter. The speedo and tach work fine.

The input for the speedo I think is an electrical signal that comes from a Hall effect sensor in the differential. Is the OD/Trip meter signal also based on this input?

Is the only probable cause for failure of the OD/trip meter the nylon gear or could it be something else caused by the heavy rain of yesterday?

If the most likely cause is the nylon gear how hard is that to repair.

Your input, thoughts, suggestions and comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
