Loose power antenna mast 700

Hi all,
Just working on my dad's friends 740 here, bout 117k, Anyway I'm replacing the power antenna for him, everythings all wired up nicely and everything, I've already had the darn antenna pop out when i didn't fit the nut on the outside fender... got that all fixed, anyway now the problem is that the antenna seems to be going too far up, so that its not stable. Its only being held in there by the nut on the outside fender. Is there a part that i'm missing, or some way to keep the mast from going up too far??
