Hi, I'm new to this site. I have been doing online searches for help with my problem and the info on this site is top notch.
Problem: I have a 1990 240 wagon and within the past month it has become more and more difficult to start. I would like to say it is entirely cold starts but it has been a problem when warm also but not as frequent as when cold. It cranks and cranks say 10 tries requires pushing on the gass to even get it to fire up. Also befor it starts it sometimes comes to an abrubt stop mid crank.
(this abrubt stop mid crank has caused me to replace 3 starters in the past month. snaping the spindle inside the starter motor) They were all from pep boys. I bought another one from auto zone and it seems to be holding up better to the harsh cranking.
Once the car has started it runs very rough and require feathering of the gas to keep it from stalling and hesitated for the first few minutes of driving. Then once warmed up it drives fine.
on more than one ocassion I gave up trying to start it before work and when I returned home 8 hours later I started right up. But still always idles rough.
When I checked the fault codes I recieved the one for problem with fuel injectors. and rich/lean fuel at idle. I forget the numbers of the top of my head.
So I replaced the Injectors with some reconditioned ones. And that code went away for that. Still has rich/lean code. And the problem remains the same.
Here are the things I replace or checked
New plugs, and wires
new fuel injectors
new fuel regulator
new rotor and cap
new air filter
cleaned fire trap
I would suspect the mass air meter but wouldn't the fault code tell me.
If any one could narrow it down for me based on this information that would be great. My wife keeps telling me to look for a subaru but I love my BRICK.
Thanks for reading.
