oil cap leak 900 1991

Hi,

My '91 Volvo 940 turbo has developed a bad leak around the oil cap. I replaced the rubber ring with a new one and it still leaked. I bought a brand new cap with new ring of course and it still leaks badly.
Could this be caused by excessive pressure? If so, what can I do?
