Hi folks,
While I'm sitting here procrastinating, I might as well ask a question that I have never quite gotten an answer to in the past.
Why do I get a whiff of sweet coolant smell from my vents when:
They are set to fresh air and no fan (smell is continuous for the drive);
For 1 minute only when the heat is on with or without the fan, then it fades;
And NOT when I run the fan with no heat (e.g. AC)?
Trying to see if I indeed have a heater core leak. Heater valve and hoses are new. No appreciable loss of coolant, ever. I am running the green cap type on my overflow tank.
Could the original heater hoses have bled into the insulation around the core, and outgas when the car is driven?
The interior of my 740GLE has always smelled peculiar. It was owned by a young woman who wore strange scents and used air fresheners, so I think part of this smell may be the 'memory' stored in the ventilation system. Anyone have experience with this?
Thanks!
Ari
