Shift linkage bushings and tranny mount: wise/not wise? 700 1987

Hi guys,

I think I need the $8 linkage bushing kit, and maybe a tranny mount for my AW70L. I have the following symptoms:

Shifter is loose forward-and-back in all positions (<1cm).

Shifter twitches during a harder shift.

The "2" position cycles into 3rd gear and stays there (like "D" + OD off).

You folks have heard me complain about my failing transmission. I've gotten it into a reasonable working order by slackening the kickdown cable and reducing the shift points by about 25% versus vehicle speed (4th gear kicks in at 35 mph), and also used some additives. Is is wise to continue fixing up a transmission that I may have to remove soon?

The rest of my 744 GLE is in nice shape. Engine is running better all the time, and oil consumption is nonexistent at 1000mi after oil change. Suspension needs work... but that's on the list. It would be sad to have to park her if the tranny died.

Ari
