broken ignition key in cylinder 200 1987

Haynes makes it look simple.& i went thru their steps to a dead end,short of removing the whole dashboard.
any insights?
ultimately i need to remove the ignition cylinder & take out the broken bit of key if i can dismantle the cylinder.
