ding dang speedometer...('87 244) 200 1987

The speedometer and the odometer on my car has been out since I bought it (2 weeks ago) so i took the dash apart. The little odometer gear was busted so i ordered up a new one and tossed it in last night, fully expecting the odometer to work (but not necessarily the speedo) on my way to the office this AM.

I pull out of the drive way and the trip odo starts to move from .1 to .2 miles and i am feeling really good about my repair. About a mile away from the house, nothing, then 2 miles, nothing. And the speedometer dosen't work still either.

Instead of arriving on time to the office, i took out the dash again and messed with the wires, re-checked the gear install and hooked a voltmeter up to the speedometer sensor wires. i am getting a good reading from the speedo sensor and the mechanical parts in the odo look ok, so tonight I am going to check all the resistors and capacitors on the board to ensure they are working but i think the issue is with the motor that drives the entire deal.

FCP does not have the motor assembly for sale, so it looks like I will be hitting the junk yard this weekend. before i start replacing electrical components, do you guys have any more trouble shooting ideas for the speedo/odo combo? Can the motor 'slip' and not engage the gears?

Thanks for the help guys.
