I happen to have a friend out of town from me that is parting out a rusted hulk of a car that once was a late 70s GT Volvo and I am in the process of building a 1986 240 DL for a local low budget race. I was curious if anyone could tell me what would be needed to get the rear gearing(ring and pinion) from that GT into this 240?

Originally was just going to try swapping the entire rearends, which still could do but the cost to ship the entire thing would be substantial. Thought about maybe pulling the brakes/axles off his rearend then shipping it to me to save on cost but was unsure if axle lengths between the models were the same. Was not sure if maybe could just get him to pull the ring/pinion and I could use those or even have him pull the diff/ring/pinion and swap those in. The only cons I found that would be related to swapping out the entire rear ends is the speedo could not hookup to the older rear end, which is no big deal for this situation.

The biggest reason I am looking into this v. finding a rear end from a 7 series auto wagon(which I am told tend to have steeper gears than the one in this 2 series) is because will already be paying for shipping for the springs and sway bars off the GT so figured best to see if could salvage the rear gearing for my needs as well.
