Data tag question 1800

Today I went and looked at a 1968 1800 and noticed that the data tag that usually has the VIN number on it was missing. The tag that I'm talking about is attached above the brake master cylinder. The VIN number was instead stamped into the fire wall next to the battery tray (so the seller told me). As I am looking for a candidate to do a rolling restoration on I want to make sure this tag missing or the VIN number in an odd place(at least it seem that way to me?)won't hurt the value of the car after I spend a bunch of time and money on it. The car has other issues but they can all be corrected. Any one out there have insight as to what I'm dealing with here. Should I walk away and keep looking?
