a couple months ago, i aquired a 1989 240 dl manual with 240ish thousand miles on it from a freinds parents for 300 dollars. the freinds mom said that the car had overheating problems and needed a new readiator. me and my dad noticed that the waterpump gasket was shot, so it was dumping antifreeze straight onto the ground. so we replaced that, and i went for an 80 mile drive to see if it would overheat. this was in febuary. it didnt heat up at all, so i figured it was fine. its had its share of problems that ive been able to fix, but today was the first really hot day that ive driven it. i got about two miles, and it stuttered and died. the temp gauge was about a quarter inch away from redline. i tried to restart it and it just would turn over and not start. so we pushed it over into the shad and i popped the hood. the radiator was too hot to touch and i opened the antifreeze container and it was steaming. i let the car sit for about an hour and tried to start it again and nothing happened. then i went to work for a couple of hours, and tried to start it again. nothing. went back to my house and got my dad in the truck to tow me home, and when we got to my car, it started right up. what the hell? i drove it home, and it died once but i was able to restart it while still moving. anyone have any suggestions?? i recently replaced the oxygen sensor, but im not sure if that would have this effect. thank you!
